Workspace invests in Midlands base

Workspace Design & Build (D&B) has opened its second office location in Birmingham with the appointment of three new senior team members.

The award-winning contractor has launched a Birmingham base which will be headed up by Lee Mather, Shaun Smith and Richard Barsby – who all join the team from Paragon Interiors Group.

Managing Director of Workspace D&B Russell Davis said: “This is a huge step in our continued growth. We see major opportunity in Birmingham and the Midlands and look to capitalise upon this with the office opening and additional appointments that will bolster the team significantly.”

Lee Mather spent two years at Paragon delivering projects valued up to £3m and across numerous market sectors – from interior design and refurbishment to new build. Clients included: Rolls Royce, Jaguar Land Rover, TATA, University of Warwick and Bombardier.

Prior to joining Paragon, Shaun Smith worked for the MoD as a Project Manager on civil and refurbishment schemes across multiple sectors and disciplines, including hospitals, residential, leisure, retail and workshops.

More recently Shaun was responsible for a self-sufficient business unit at Paragon, creating sales, bidding, designing and delivering a wide variety of schemes for clients including; JLR, Aviva, Adecco, NetApp, HTC, NEC and Coventry Building Society.

Richard Barsby has 30 years of experience working alongside main contractors and also as lead building services manager. Previous clients include: JLR, Loughborough university, Ford, University college London and Here East.

On joining Workspace and launching the Midlands offer, Lee Mather said: “This is a brilliant opportunity to build upon the strong standing Workspace has created across the North. As a team we are excited to be able to rebuild bridging with old clients and create new relationships with others.

The Workspace Midlands team will operate from Cornwall Buildings in Birmingham and will focus on developing new and expanding existing relationships, building the brand in the region and creating opportunities for business.

Russell Davis added: “The Midlands presents a real opportunity for Workspace and we look forward to building our contacts and brand in the region and getting to grips with the regional market. This base will complement our offering in Manchester and will enable us to offer a more comprehensive, wide-spread service to all clients.”

Following a record year, Workspace has added 22 employees to its rapidly expanding and talented team, bringing its head count just shy of 50. They also moved into larger premises at York House in Manchester to facilitate their strategic growth plans.

Workspace is currently working with clients such as; Schroder Real Estate, Kinrise, Bruntwood, Investream and etc. urban. Projects across the group span both the residential and commercial sector across the UK.
