Duke and Parr

Spanning over 55,000 square feet and taking 11 months to complete, this project in Liverpool is filled with history, original features, and quirky corners.

Built around 1800, this Grade II listed building in the Ropewalks area of Liverpool, has undergone a full refurbishment to bring the building back to life. Works were completed to connect the ground floor to the basement level by restoring the original staircase in the glass atrium, and a new escape stair was installed to the lower basement, to improve useability of the lower levels by future tenants. Works throughout the building consisted of restoration to floors and ceilings, installation of new stylish sanitaryware and fixings, and full M&E installation. The vision designed by Sheila Bird Studio creates a lifestyle destination combining a modern workplace environment with leisure uses across 2 connected buildings.

With the property dating back as early as 1800, with a history as Liverpool’s 1st public library, Duke & Parr was a true heritage project that required a contractor with specialist knowledge, an obsessive pride in their work, and the agility to adapt to the surprises within the existing structure, and the ever evolving brief from the project team. Workspace delivered on all fronts, facing each challenge with energy and enthusiasm throughout, ensuring the project was delivered on time and within budget.
