Top 3 Takeaways from Clerkenwell Design Week 2025: Insights from Our Designers

Some of our design team spent the day exploring Clerkenwell Design Week, an annual festival for leading interior brands and emerging designers to come together and showcase their new products and forward-thinking concepts. With a focus on innovative materials, sustainable design, and immersive experiences, the event sparked fresh ideas and offered plenty of inspiration for our team, Kim, Josh and Charlotte, to put into their current projects. Here are their top three takeaways from the day.

Colour returns and it’s bold and bright

Colour blocking is making a strong comeback. Designers like JDD and Modulus embraced bright colours, with Modulus even hosting their show in a lilac and yellow showroom! Throughout the event, colour was used to create standout eye catching pieces. Josh highlighted the bright orange sofa by Ocee and Four, saying ‘it immediately reminded him of a cinema room.’ He added that ‘bright oranges and sage greens felt like the key colours of the show calming with serenity in mind.’ Colour is great for adding interest to any space, especially as summer approaches. The design show reminded us not to be afraid of colour and that bold choices can pay off.

Elevate style through bold patterns

Bold statements and patterns are back in full force. From striking geometric shapes and intricate florals to crisp check prints, patterns can transform simple furniture pieces by adding interesting, subtle details. Designer Mira showcased a wide range of new patterned fabrics, while Camira impressed with their subtly patterned upholstery bringing back classic crosshatch, checked, and houndstooth designs, all rendered in black and white to let the patterns speak for themselves. Outdoor furniture by Ethimo caught Josh’s eye, he mentioned ‘with its delicate weave detailing around the back of the seating, the furniture offered a refined texture that added understated interest to the piece.’ Patterns like these bring a playful yet sophisticated energy to any space, balancing visual impact with thoughtful design.

Curves redefine design

Curves were everywhere. Soft shapes are the current trend; the rounded edges and flowing shapes bring a smooth softness to any pieces and offer an alternative to rigid lines and sharp angles that have been popular for years. Whether it’s a sweeping sofa, an arched doorway, or a circular coffee table, curved elements encourage movement. Curved design was a key feature in both Ocee and Four’s orange sofa and Ethimo’s outdoor furniture. Kim noted ‘I particularly enjoyed the Tom Dixon’s incorporation of curvature in the lighting and also Boss and deadgood embracing the curve shape.’

Visiting Clerkenwell Design Week inspired our team and reminded us that design doesn’t have to be simple to feel elegant. Adding bold, playful touches can lift a space without losing its sense of sophistication. Whether it’s through furniture, colour, or lighting, mixing in these elements lets you make a statement that feels fresh and stylish. Looking ahead to 2025, it’s a great time to experiment with colour, patterns, and curves to bring new life to your space.
