Following a decision to modernise their office space, Bruntwood Midlands wanted to update their regional office based in Birmingham. The building, Cornerblock, needed reviving and Bruntwood wanted the office space to be reflective of their brand within the portfolio of spaces, but also accommodating for the staff and the many guests that frequent there.
A varied space
The space is now home to 10 permanent desks and 10 hot desks, a board room, and a kitchen/social area. Throughout the whole office space, we created different work environments for people to work in, such as high tables, phone booths and quiet meeting areas. In the main office area, two types of Interface Radial carpet tiles are laid checkerboard. Each carpet tile has a gradient effect, giving more life to the room without being too vibrant and distracting. Artwork is also placed in various places to brighten the areas.
The glazed doors of the boardroom fold inwards to create more space to hold social events in the office. Most furniture throughout the space can be moved around to accommodate for larger groups and guests. The client requested a social area for the staff to relax in and catch up with colleagues, so we fitted casual, stacked cushioned seating in the kitchen area in an open plan, inclusive layout. In the social space we removed the existing suspended ceiling (tidied up with concrete slabs) to open up the space so it has a café style feel – similar to our office here at York House.
