Workspace Rise to the Challenge at Manchester One

WORKSPACE Design & Build (D&B) has risen to new heights as it occupies the top floor of Manchester One on Portland St.

The award-winning fit-out contractor undertook a creative fit-out of the highest floor of the iconic office building earlier this year and subsequently took occupancy in June.

The team worked alongside property partner Bruntwood to renovate the 21st floor of Manchester One, creating a sophisticated and desirable city centre working environment with their knowledge and expertise of transforming office spaces.

The firm has grown rapidly over the past year and felt the space was the ideal fit for them to expand into.

Employees are enjoying a panoramic view, highly digital connectivity, minimalist design plus the highest garden in Manchester with fully functioning Bowling Green.

Russell Davis, Managing Director at Workspace D&B, said: “As the needs of the modern employee evolve, so should their workspace.

“We’ve expanded the team significantly over the past twelve months, while also investing in a dedicated business development team to capitalise on the influx of migrating businesses we’ve seen post-recession.

“Responding to the needs of an ever-growing team is of paramount importance to the success of our business. This move has allowed us to keep up with the pace of technological change and the move towards more flexible working solutions.

“We approach every project with a can do attitude, and it was no different with our own office space here at Manchester One.
“With clever design we have created a really useable and attractive work space and to have been able to create our own garden 262 ft. up in the air showcases our commitment to squeezing value out of every space – no matter how challenging.”

Colin Sinclair, director of workspace development at Bruntwood, said: “We commissioned Workspace Design & Build to help shape a number of design-led spaces for creatively-minded businesses at some of our key buildings in Manchester city centre, namely Manchester One, St James’ and West Village, but as soon as they saw the top floor of Manchester One – they fell in love with the space themselves.

“We are thrilled Workspace decided to take residence at Manchester One but with stunning views across the city centre skyline and Manchester’s highest roof garden at their disposal on the 21st floor, it was hardly surprising. We wish them all the best in their new home.”

Manchester One, previously known as Portland Tower, houses more than 130,000 sq. ft. of high quality work space. The tower was one of the first high-rise buildings constructed in the 1960s in the UK and stands at 262 ft. high with 21 storeys.

Bruntwood purchased the property in 1994 and renamed it Portland Tower soon after. The building was redeveloped and renamed as Manchester One in 2012.
